Life hacks for millennial travelers


Traveling is a thing now for most millennial and if they want it and they have the means , they will travel across the globe and be free-spirited. With that , here are some tips that you might consider when you plan your travel. 

Plane Tickets

  • Subscribe to airline newsletters and follow their social media
  • Maximize the time by choosing the best flight suitable for your trip
  • Use apps like traveloka and skyscanner/cheapflights to score cheap flights. ( Always check if they have an ongoing promo
  • Go for those airlines who will give you rewards points or miles. You can use this miles for future travels. Most credit card do offer a pointing system in exchange of airline miles. 

Accommodation

  • Subscribe to booking sites newsletters like agoda , traveloka and booking
  • If you want to get a free accommodation , get a host through couchsurfing. 
  • If you’re on a budget , opt for a hostel than a hotel. Or you can always look for an Airbnb.. 
  • Always consider the proximity of your accommodation to the train/bus stations and to other touristy spots around the area to cut fare expenses. 

Itinerary

  • Simple and must be easy to follow 
  • Must contain all the information you need if you don’t have a wifi with you during your trip
  • Make a budget and bring extra cash/card.
  • Read something about the destination you’re going to. Don’t stick with only one reference. Read as many guides as you like If you want to be prepared. If you want to be surprised about that destination , just go with the flow of your travel. 
  • When going overseas , make sure to check for the best exchange rates.
  • Download helpful apps like google maps , google translate , RailMap. You can also save or pre-load the map so you can use it even if you’re offline.
  • Memorize your passport id number. This has help me a million times. Trust me , it will help you too ♥

Tools

  • Camera . powerbank , phones and chargers
  • Download apps that can enhance your photography and photo editing skills like VSCO , Adobe Lightroom and Afterlight

In General

  • Always ask your accommodation if you can check in early, if not , just leave your stuff there. You can also ask them some tips for your trip and compare it to what you already have. 
  • When traveling overseas , ALWAYS bring your passport
  • Get a decent data or wifi connection. (Especially when traveling solo) There are also telecommunication company that sells traveler sim card that can be used on different countries like Starhub. You can use roaming data for 30 SGD/3gb of data good for 30 days. 
  • Just enjoy and stick to your budget. Track your expenses everyday. 

For Solo Travelers

  • Maximize couch surfing. Couch surfing is a platform that allows you to interact with both local and foreign travelers. Most local members of couch surfing offers a hosting service depending on the duration of you trip. You can know more about the app at https://www.couchsurfing.com/ .
  • Look for a trip where you can join a group tour to cut expenses. ( I usually book mine through the Klook app ) 
  • Track back your expenses from your previous trip. 
  • List the destinations that you want to go back to. 
  • Ask yourself , Where to next?
